In 1982, appalled by the dumping and destruction of old and out dated equipment, a group of on duty firefighters held several meetings.
These meetings led to the creation of the Fire Brigade’s Historical Society. Over the years equipment was salvaged, collected or donated and stored in various locations in Brisbane. Authorities in Brisbane at the time seemed unwilling or unable help the fledgling Society.
It was not until 1986 that the then Pine Rivers Mayor, Yvonne Chapman offered the society land at Old Petrie Town. A bicentennial grant was obtained, with the stipulation that all work and materials was to be sourced and undertaken through the Pine Rivers Council.
Since that time the buildings have been extended and the society now has a static display of some 14 vehicles, over 300 helmets and uniforms, artefacts and photographs.
